Thoughts on The Chaser's War on Everything APEC Stunt

As many of you are aware, I am a big fan of the show "The Chaser's War on Everything". This Australian show could be compared to "This Hour has 22 Minutes". "The Chaser" is based on ridiculous stunts involving: embarrasing themselves in public, poking fun at political leaders and attempting to enter areas they are not supposed to be.

Last week, the members of "The Chaser" again attempted a similar security related stunt. This time at the APEC summit. The plan: Create a motorcade, label it as Canadian, get stopped at the first security check, Chaz gets out of said motorcade dressed as Osama Bin Laden, Chaz gets arrested and the clips are edited in time for the season premiere. Unfortunately, things didn't quite go according to plan. What happened: Small motorcade created, labeled as Canadian, they get flagged through the first SECURITY ZONE, the get flagged through the next SECURITY ZONE, they reach within 10 metres of the hotel where all the leaders of the first world are staying, they bail on the plan, Chaz gets out of the car dressed as Osama and all the members of the production crew, cast and film crew are arrested and several members remain in jail on very serious charges.

Now all the members of the Australian police/APEC security are telling us this is NOT FUNNY. They are also claiming they are NOT EMBARRASSED because the security arrested these imposter's when they exited the vehicle and in turn did their job.

This is what is wrong with that statement:

Firstly, the Australian tax payers are paying collectively 280 million dollars a day to insure that these first world leaders are safe, they are safe and all of Australia isn't "terrorist attacked" during the APEC summit.
Secondly, everyone knew that Canada wasn't arriving for another 2 days, why didn't APEC security know that?
Thirdly, I think that the members of "The Chaser" may have gotten much further, if it had not been for Chaz's crazy "Osama" costume.
Lastly, they should be embarrassed, because the world is laughing at their expense.

I personally found it hilarious and the popularity of this Australian Broadcast Channel (the equivalent of the CBC or PBS) show has gone through the roof. Before this incident you may have found 20 or so clips on youtube, now you can find at least double that.

I look forward to seeing how this whole thing unfolds. I'm imagining the APEC people keep the boys in jail to prove a point during APEC. But "The Chaser" guys do have a pretty good case; they shouldn't be punished for disorganization on APEC's part. APEC is just lucky the fake motorcade wasn't real terrorists, because it could have been.
